Christmas has begun!

It has been a busy week in RSL, with rehearsals for our Christmas play, final touches for our class hoop and our trip to the Horniman Museum.  We have also been learning about winter animals this week – most of which we saw at the Horniman yesterday. A massive thank you to Debbie, Kelene and Naomi for their help on the trip. We had a great time and they were able to make lots of lovely noise with a range of strange and wonderful musical instruments from around the world!

In phonics we have continued to learn to our kinetic letters using the Brave and Scared monkeys. This week we learnt the final letters in the Abracadabra family:
Abracadabra Family

/d/ start at the scared monkey, pull round and down, push, to make a ‘c’ – abracadabra, up like a helicopter with a really powerful engine, back down and flick.

/0/ start at the scared monkey, pull round and down, push, to make a ‘c’ – abracadabra, on round to the start and push.

/g/ start at the scared monkey, pull round and down, push, to make a ‘c’ – abracadabra, up like a helicopter, back down, on down and pull round for a tail.

/q/ start at the scared monkey, pull round and down, push, to make a ‘c’ – abracadabra, up like a helicopter, back down, on down and flick.

Can you show your family how to write these letters?

There has been lots of opportunities to practising our handwriting in class and we have turned our castle role play area into a Christmas post office. So everyone has been busy writing their wish list for Father Christmas and sending off Christmas cards to family and friends.

In maths this week we have been learnig how to find the total of two groups of objects by counting them altogether. As a result your maths challenge this week is to send in a picture of you with two groups of objects that make a total of 5 when added together. You can use your toys, food or your fingers to show the answer. Please send your photos to sophielavender@rosendale.cc

Finally I hope you all had a good time at the school Christmas fair. The biscuit decorating stall was very popular, so thank you all for your generous donations and well done to Natalie and Henna for orgainising it all so well.

Have a lovely weekend!
