Well done on a great first week back! This half of term our theme is space and this week we have been looking at the story Aliens Love Underpants. It has really brought the children’s imaginations alive especially as an alien spaceship landed in our playground on Wednesday and we found alien eggs! As a result the children have been busy investigating the remains of the alien spaceship, studying the alien eggs and hunting for signs of alien life on earth – some children even spotted some aliens around school! This has spurred on lots of writing; letters to Miss Atkins to tell her what happened; postcards to the aliens to ask for our underpants back; and accounts of what we have seen.
In phonics we have continued to learn to write new kinetic letters using the Brave and Scared monkeys. This week we have been introduced to the Fisher Family, in which all the letters go below the line and are all formed by the scared monkey.
/g/ start at the scared monkey, make a ‘c’ – pull round, down, and push, abracadabra, up like a helicopter, back down, on down and pull round for a tail.
/j/ start at the scared monkey’s branch, pull down, on down and pull round for a tail, pen off the paper and do a dot.
/y/ start at the scared monkey’s branch, pull down, round and up like a helicopter, back back down, on down and pull round for a tail.
/f/ start at the scared monkey’s branch, pull round and down, on down and pull round for a tail, pen off the paper and push across.
Can you show your family how to write these letters?
In maths this week we have been looking at measure and comparing objects by sizes using language such as bigger and smaller, longer and shorter. We have compared and ordered by size lots of things from underpants to ourselves! Your maths challenge this week is to send in a picture of you with 5 objects in the correct size order. You can use toys, people, food or other objects to show the answer. Please send your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org
