Throughout the past few weeks the children have been thinking about their local community and our local area. As part of this we have produced some fantastic learning across the whole school and this will be on display for parents to come and see this Friday in the Sports Hall between 2.50 and 3.20.
Each year group will have a stall which will feature some of our fantastic learning and it is a great opportunity to learn about what your child has been doing and also to see what the other classes in the school have been learning about as well. It also has been fantastic hearing the children’s opinions about their local community.
This week our topic has been ‘Our community and the homes we live in.’ We have also looked at the story of the Three Little Pigs and investigated what materials might be good to build a strong house. This learning was linked to our whole school project on ‘Our community’ and our artwork and learning will be exhibited on Friday 21st October for parents to view – more details to follow next week.
In maths we have been busy learning about 2d shapes and their properties. We have used shapes to create pictures, build rockets and have hunted for them in the sand pit and blue jelly. Yesterday we were shape detectives and tried to spot as many shapes as possible around the school.
Our sounds like week have been
/e/ eggs in the egg cup
/u/ up up umbrella
/r/ robots are racing
Next week we will be celebrating Herbert the Hippo’s Birthday. We would like to decorate our role play corners with birthday party decorations so we would be grateful if you could donate any balloons, party hats, birthday banners etc. On Wednesday we will be having a class party for Herbert the Hippo so please bring in a small snack to share with your friends.
The maths challenge this week is to go on a shape hunt around your house and send in a photo of you with an object (email@example.com). Can you find a circle or a rectangle?
Have a brilliant weekend everyone!
Our topic this week is about the community and the homes we live in. As part of this please could you email me – firstname.lastname@example.org – a photo of the front of your house (without your child in it) by Wednesday. We will be using it as a visual aid for description but also as a part of a whole class art work this week.
